IN MISSION
engaging our community, our country, our world
The folks at Roaring Fork Valley UMC have participated in National and International Mission/Work trips. We have done projects such as repairing floors and roofs, drywall, painting, and flood mitigation caused by heavy rains, tornadoes, or hurricanes in Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, and Missouri. In addition, we have traveled internationally to Costa Rica, Colombia, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. Projects have included the building of a medical clinic, a classroom, houses, repairing a daycare center and smokeless wood burning stoves.
Local mission work includes an Angel Tree at Christmas to supply much needed household items to the Advocate Safe House, a shelter for abused women and their children. Peanut butter sandwiches are made and delivered weekly to our houseless friends through Feed My Sheep. We have a community garden at the Carbondale location which provides fresh produce to many in the community. Glenwood is a host site for LiftUp where a hot meal is served every weekday at 5:00 pm to anyone in need. In all of our connections we strive to see the world as God sees it, and to work together to make God's dreams come true.

Veracruz English Academy PartnershipRegan Downs believes that education is the best gift he can give his neighbors as they work to overcome poverty. A son of Nicaragua, he started a school at his own home in 2008 with just a few students. Since then VEA has grown to 70 students. While schools are considered free to citizens, there remain fees for uniforms and materials. Fifteen students can achieve their dream of education through our monthly support. In Nicaragua, English fluency is a desirable workforce skill that leads to more opportunities and family-sustaining jobs. Regan hopes to expand his work to include English classes for community members.
