Join us for our Lenten Series: A Good Enough Lent
When life goes off the rails, we can begin to believe that we are the problem. But sometimes circumstances out of our control rob us of the shiny, perfect life we had so carefully planned. A diagnosis. A broken heart. A lost opportunity. We have to learn to live inside of a life that may not be perfectible. One of the most counterintuitive parts of the Christian tradition is its emphasis on progress when it doesn’t believe in absolute perfection. Jesus alone is perfect. But we are asked to try and try and try again. I do not imagine that I will settle centuries of Christian debate about just how good we are, except that I believe it is somewhere between two poles: everything and nothing. Perfection is impossible. But transformation isn’t. |
